5 Enemies to Watch Out For

Fear destroys; even the most basic fears destroy. The choices we make either enhance our fears,  or kick them out of our way. Here are five common "enemies" that we face within ourselves when it comes to our business. If we keep them on check and we face them head on, we can overcome them and see success!

1.  Indifference.  Lack of interest, concern, or sympathy. Synonyms: lack of concern, unconcern, disinterest, lack of interest, lack of enthusiasm, apathy, nonchalance. You cannot be on the road to success with indifference. You cannot achieve your goals if you don't treat your business as a priority and if you go about your daily routines with any indifference towards your business. When we have an "if I don't get to it today, I'll get to it tomorrow" type attitude, there's a lack of enthusiasm there that seldom gets us to where we want to go.  Kick indifference out of your way and put passion in its place!

2.  Indecision.  Difficulty in making a decision; a wavering between two or more possible courses of action. Synonyms: faltering, hesitation, pause, wavering. Indecision never allows you to go for that leap. It steals the moment and the opportunity. Choose to make something happen and stick to it. Kick indecision out of your way and put determination in its place!

3.  Doubt. To be uncertain about (something); to believe that (something) may not be true or is unlikely; to have no confidence in (someone or something). Synonyms: distrust, mistrust, question, suspect. Doubt destroys your life because you begin to question everything about yourself and your business. You need to trust the decision you have made about your business, you need to trust your company and you need to trust yourself. Kick doubt out of your way and put belief and faith in its place!

4.  Worry. To think about problems or fears; to feel or show fear and concern because you think that something bad has happened or could happen; to make (someone) anxious or upset. Synonyms: bother, fear, fret, fuss, stress, trouble. It's normal to think about some problems or fears within the business, but when you let worry conquer you, you lose control. Always remember that within all plausible problems of what could happen scenarios, there's always a solution; don't let worry get the best of you. Kick worry out of your way and put peace in its place!

5.  Overcautious.  Excessively or unnecessarily cautious and too careful to avoid potential problems or dangers. Synonyms:  too careful, too conservative, too safe, too timid. Being overcautious can destroy your life. A timid approach to your business will not allow you to grow, advance or overcome. Timid people do not cross lines or take leaps. Every choice made in your business is a line crossed or a leap taken. Don't let over caution control your actions. Kick over caution out of your way and put confidence in its place!

Don't let the fear of success be greater than the fear of failure! Conquer those enemies!
Don't be limited to the life you're living.

Quick Tips On The Go!

Consultants and Representatives of Direct Selling Companies join these companies because they fall in love with the product, believe in the product and know the benefits of the product. Apart from the basic ways of earning income and reaching sales goals (parties, open houses, events, demos), these are some quick 'on the go' tips to help with new leads and customer base, as well as sales.
The more passionate we are about our products and the more they become part of our lifestyle, the more we will reap the benefits of sharing our products with everyone, every where we go!
Implement some of these On The Go tips to watch your business grow!

1. Brand yourself. Brand your car. Everywhere you go make sure you have on something that has your company's logo and that is promoting your products and promoting yourself! Car vinyl, t-shirt, cap, button, name badge, bag or purse. Generate questions everywhere you go by branding and promoting your business!

2. Info packs.  Carry information packs or recruiting materials with you where ever you go, along with some stickies or post it notes. Whenever you give out an info pack, write down the new lead's info on the stickies or post it note and follow up with them within two to three days. If you give out 10 info packs, then you should have 10 new lead info notes.

3.  Infomercials! Know your products and your business compensation plan and don't be afraid to talk to others about it. Find ways to work your little commercials into your conversations and let others see your passion and know what they're missing out on! Know the benefits of your product and of being a part of your company.

4.  Third party referrals. Ask everyone for referrals! Ask current customers, hosts, leads, new leads, anyone and everyone should be made aware of the amazing products you represent as well as the amazing opportunity that can change their life. Ask for referrals when you're having conversations with various people, they surely know a couple of people who are interested in what you have to offer. Step out of your comfort zone!

5.  Monthly Flyers/Packets. Label your packs or as I like to call them, "goodie bags". Include some samples, a product list or catalog, sponsoring information and any other "goodie" you can include; carry them with you, mail them to current customers and past hostesses and make sure you get them in the hands of all leads. Label, label, label. No product, no paper, nothing should leave your hands if it's not labeled!

Connecting With Charisma

Connecting and making connections is the best way to grow your business. But, how can we connect with others? We can connect by spending time outside of our comfort zones and building connections with charisma!

During a leadership training I received last year, the speaker mentioned that the best way to come out of our comfort zone and purposely grow our business is by making deliberate connections with new contacts. The way we connect with those new contacts has a lot to do with our charisma towards others. In a nutshell, here are the ways we should be building connections:

C Concern for the need of the person, what does he/she want or need?
H Help. Reach out to others in their need.
A Action. Take action and create a fun and enjoyable experience.
R Results. Have the ability to produce results when making connections by applying your strengths.
Influence, be influential, be a leader and others will follow.
S Sensitivity when making connections allows others to feel comfortable with you.
M Motivation and hope should be at the core of your connections with others.
Affirmation. Build up the person you are connecting with and let them see themselves as you see them.

Positive thoughts turn to positive actions which becomes a way of life.

Step Out Of Your Comfort Zone

As businessmen and businesswomen, we need to always be alert as to what phase or level we are in when it comes to our business, our lives, our family, mentally, spiritually, emotionally and physically. When you feel as though you've hit a plateau in your business, then that's the time you need to evaluate and examine where you are and face the fact that it may be time to step out of that comfort zone and jump into growth!

The first step in auto-evaluation and self-examination in any area of your life is to ask yourself what are your three strengths and three weaknesses in a specific area. So, since we are talking about our business as Independent Consultants or Representatives, the first thing you need to do is make a list of 3 things you believe you are good at in your business and 3 things you believe you are not good at. (This can be in any area of your business).

Next, you need to list weekly actions you are going to make to get you to grow. Those three things can be a mix of your strengths and weaknesses, just make sure you don't concentrate only on your strengths. The point is to come out of your comfort zone, so tackling your areas of weakness will be helpful in this step.
Ask yourself this:
What are three simple steps I can take this week to get to where I want to go? (This can be geared to any area of your life, not just business).
Ask yourself this question each Sunday night or Monday morning, jot down your answers each week and make sure you follow through with the steps.

When you talk about coming out of your comfort zone, you need to realize that, inside that comfort zone, there's no need to think, there are no risks taken and there's no growth. It's your comfort zone!
But once you decide to step out, you will find that as soon as you make the decision to step out, fear and terror will want to paralyze you and stop you dead in your tracks. Don't let it!! You will find that stepping out of your comfort zone unto growth requires intentionality. You need to be intentional in your actions and sometimes force yourself to take action towards growth. You will find that as you begin to think and realize you must step out, there comes a moment in time, a moment of determination where you jump out of the zone, into growth and realize it's now or never! Once you overcome that moment, you can step into growth, a process that is uncomfortable, inconvenient, challenging, but also profitable, powerful and promising. You need to keep the last three in mind whenever you experience the first three and want to quit!

Remember to overcome your fear with faith. Believe in yourself. Believe you can do it and kill all of the negative beliefs you may have of yourself. All the negative sound must go!
Now, go and step out of that comfort zone and capture growth!
You can do it!

Tips on Sponsoring New Recruits

With the start of the New Year, it's always important to set goals for growth. If you consistently grow your team wide and deep, you will enjoy success. Here are some tips on how to get leads for potential recruits. Start the new year with fresh vision of growth and watch your team bloom!

1.  Take some time to go through training videos, calls and notes about recruiting and sponsoring. Keep the vision fresh in your mind, and see it come to pass!

2.  Keep an eye out for Rock Star hosts and hostesses, sign them up and have that party be their launch party. Get them to see your vision of growth and set goals with them to reach their fast track, shooting star and pacesetter awards as soon as they sign up! Get your team moving!

3.  Market and promote yourself in social networking as a Team Leader and Trainer. Get your vision out there and invite others to join your team and run with your team's vision!

4.  Reach out to some loyal customers and find out if any family members want to join your team and they can then support their family member as their loyal customer. Don't look at it as losing a loyal customer, but as gaining a new team member who will branch out and expand their customer base with your help and coaching.

5.  Share the business opportunity with everyone you meet. Talk about growth, share your vision and let everyone know you are looking for partners and team members who want to start the new year fresh. Share your vision and let others run with it and have a team that blooms!

6.  Host some events, attend some events and look out for those special people looking for a business opportunity. Share the benefits of your company, products, compensation plan and your training and coaching.  Share your vision of growth!

7.  Do a Recruiting Bltiz. Call past customers, hosts, hostesses, leads and let them know what your company is offering this month as a start up bonus, share the compensation plan and let them know you are sponsoring new team members and wanted to give them first hand information and option to joining your growing team this month!

8.  Lead others with your passion and be positive about the success you are having this new year with your growing team. Lead them, they will follow!

9.  Share and educate others about your product. When people see the benefits of your product, your passion about your product and how easy it is to share and sell, they will want to join and educate others as well. Share your passion!

10.  Seal the deal, don't let them think on it, close the sponsorship deal if they don't have any objections. There are people who are ready to join and are just waiting to be asked! Get those to  run with your vision of growth!

Biggest Mistakes in Direct Selling

Whether you are new to your company, or a veteran, here are some mistakes we should NOT make as Consultants or Reps. These mistakes may cost you your success, take note of them and Don't do them!

Biggest Mistakes Consultants and Reps make with their business:
1. They do not listen to their calls and trainings. They get disconnected with their goals, team, vision and therefore get disconnected to their results!

2.  They do not realize the power of setting goals. They let days and weeks go by without having clear, focused vision and goals and therefore don't achieve the ultimate success they want.

3.  They make things more difficult than they need to. Keep things simple when selling, sharing, booking, branding, generating leads and team building.

4.  They forget to invite everyone to either buy, host or join! Your audience won't know what you have to offer if you don't share the various opportunities. Hesitation can result in time and energy wasted.

5.  They forget to attach samples to whatever leaves their hands. In the case of Scentsy Consultants, always attach a smell to everything, it's your best selling tool!

6.  They try to figure things out on their own instead of calling on their support system and team. When you surround yourself with those on your team and those above you, you are constantly learning!

7.  They forget to label everything. Everything that leaves your hands MUST be labeled. Brand yourself and generate those leads!

8.  They rely too much on evites, emails, facebook for their parties. Always back up and follow up party invitations with phone calls, texts, and written postcards to add the personal touch!

9.  They don't take advantage of the many ways to host parties. Remember using simple methods of partying will get you the same results and at times is less time and energy consuming. In the case of Scentsy, using Basket parties are such a simple and fun way of getting sales without hassle!

10.  They don't use door prize slips to get new contacts! They tend to give out business cards but don't get any new contact information. Door slips are a great way to generate new leads. Follow up 5-8 times with   each new contact.

11.  They don't think presentation of their products is important. Presenting your orders and products in a nice manner will keep customers coming back!

12.  They don't go the extra mile with their customers. Add a sample, spray your customer's bag, write Thank You on the receipt, do a customer incentive... any extra is always a good thing!

The Five 'Be's' to Finishing What You Started

With the start of a New Year comes new challenges, new opportunities, new projects, new deadlines, and we definitely want to see new results. What better way to start off the New Year with these 5 ways to finish what you start.

I cannot take credit for the tips provided in this post. This is all taken from Simon T. Bailey's newsletter, Inspiring Brilliant Action. I believe these five "Be's" can be implemented at any time at the start of a new project and you can complete it and feel successful at its completion! I felt I had to share this with all my readers, as all the information provided is such a great tool to get us to a next level and to motivate us to get going and be successful with our goals!  Sit back, take notes and enjoy! I know this is one that I will need to read a few times until I can absorb it all!

An archery teacher placed a wooden bird in a field and asked his students to aim at the eye of the bird. Then he asked the first student, "What do you see when you take aim?"

The student said, "I see the trees and their branches and leaves.  I see the sky.  And I see the bird and its eye."

The teacher turned to his second student and asked, "And what do you see?"

The second student said, "I see only the eye of the bird."

"Very good," said the teacher.  "Take your shot."

The arrow flew straight and hit the bird directly in its eye.

Until you focus, my friend, you cannot hit the target!

Whatever you are moving toward, that goal is also moving toward you. What are you focusing on right now? Do you believe in it? Whatever you're aiming for, please put your head, heart, and hands into it.

Here are five tips that will empower you to finish what you start, every time:

Be big, think big, and act big.  Benjamin E. Mays, former president of Morehouse College, once said, "The tragedy of life is often not in our failure, but rather in our complacency; not in our doing too much, but rather in our doing too little; not in our living above our ability, but rather in our living below our capacities." What can you do to drive value in all that you do? Make it happen.

Be open to happy accidents.  Joe Jaworski, author of Synchronicity: The Inner Path of Leadership, says, "Serendipity is when you go to a place, a setting, or a meeting expecting a certain outcome and discover something entirely different because you are open and are present to the moment."

In "Perceptions of Serendipity," published in the Journal of Counseling Psychology, we learn that "career analysts find that 83% of mid-career professionals believe chance (serendipity) played a significant role in their ultimate career path and that they highly value staying open for unexpected opportunities."

Keep moving forward. You never know what you might bump into, my friend.

Be intentional with your time and energy.  Vilfredo Pareto was an Italian economist who, in 1906, observed that 20% of the Italian people owned 80% of their country's accumulated wealth.  Now, to put this in context: 80% of your success is the result of 20% of your efforts.  Determine how you can move the needle by becoming laser-like in your daily efforts, rather than being a floor lamp that diffuses its energy, or a strobe light that can't focus on any one thing.

Be desperate.  In his latest book David and Goliath (a must-read), Malcolm Gladwell shares an amazing story about University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino: "In 1978, when he was twenty-five years old, Pitino used the full court press to take the school to its first NCAA tournament appearance in twenty-four years. Pitino says he has many coaches come to Louisville every year to learn the press. They turn around and e-mail him and tell him that they can't do it. He tells them, 'We practice every day for two hours. The players are moving almost ninety-eight percent of the practice. We spend very little time talking."

The coaches who came to learn from Rick Pitino were not desperate enough to change. Gladwell makes the point that to beat the Goliath in your life, you have to be desperate enough to do the unconventional.

Be a Storyteller.  Contagious by Jonah Berger is one of my favorite books. He says, "People don't share information; they tell stories. But just like the epic tale of the Trojan Horse, stories are vessels that carry things such as morals and lessons. Information travels under the guise of what seems like idle chatter. So we need to build our own Trojan horses, embedding our products and ideas in stories that people want to tell. Make your message so integral to the narrative that people can't tell the story without it."

When a person decides to focus, they heed the advice Robin Williams gives in the movie Dead Poets Society: "Carpe diem. Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary."
