Making Connections 101

Building relationships and making connections are a big part of building a successful business. Our clients and customers need to feel they can trust us, that we can help them and that taking care of them is our #1 priority. Here are some "connecting signals" that let us know we are connecting with others and they are connecting with us.

*when people go the extra mile (providing great customer service and loyal, repeat clients)
*when people say positive, unsolicited things (make them feel good, they make you feel good)
*when people demonstrate trust
*when people express themselves (there's an increase in communication, no barriers)
*when people feel good about what they do (business owner providing great service, customer receiving great service)
*when people connect on an emotional level (build a relationship beyond good customer service)
*when people's emotional batteries are charged by being together (great motivation and inspiration)
*when people's effectiveness is greater than the sum of their contribution. (they impact and change lives)
*when people are accepting without reservation (unconditional love and support)

Want to advance?  It's simple, connect!

Re-Create Your Business

There comes the time when we need to ask ourselves, "Am I doing all that I'm supposed to do for my business?". I am sure that more times than not, we will find ourselves thinking we really are not doing ALL that we should. This is the perfect time for some Re-Creating!

No, I am not trying to give you more work or add more to your already busy schedule. I am trying to re-focus you and get you on the track to success. Sure, we all tend to slide off the track from time to time, I mean, there is that thing called life....  So, my purpose is to help us all stick to it by re-creating our business.
How exactly do I suggest we do that? By simply sticking the prefix RE- in front of us!  :)
RE- means to do it again. That's the key! DO it again. And again. And again!  Do it again!

Re-create your vision. Is your vision board old? Make a new one!
Re-examine your actions. Are they yielding results? Change them!
Re-commit to your business. Have you been slacking off? Prioritize!
Re-design your plan of action. What actions need to change in order to see results? Invent new ones!
Re-purpose your why and calling. Why are you doing what you're doing? Find those important things and find your pupose!
Re-define what needs to be done. What goals have you been setting? Have you been reaching them? Start goal planning!
Re-evaluate systems that may or may not work. Do you have a support system? What is working with your time management? Implement some changes and take out the negative!
Re-visit older training. Feel like you're stuck in a rut? We should always be in the process of learning. Go back to some beginner courses and refresh your mind and find that passion again.
Re-design yourself!  Need some motivation? Remember to take time for yourself, a fresh new look, wardrobe, a massage, work on yourself and feel excited to get out there and re-create your business!

Sometimes the jump start we need is all in re-producing what has worked!

Positive thoughts turn to positive actions which becomes a way of life.

Kick Rejection To The Curb!

Ah yes, the fear of rejection, the success stealer and number one reason for staying in that dreaded comfort zone!

Take these tips and roll with them, the next time someone rejects you, remember to change your mindset and keep pushing forward!

1.  Re-frame your perceptions. Everyone gets rejected. You need to get past the No's in order to get the Yes's. Don't take rejection personally. You will find those that want what you are offering, you just need to find them!  Change your mindset!

2.   Clarify your mission. Believe in your product and your service and believe that you have something that people need and lives will change! Believe in the opportunity and find those that need it! Change your mindset!

3.  Take action! Make connections (new connections, re-establish older ones). Make 1 call per day and connect, share and grow!

4.  Re-enforce your activity. Celebrate your effort and actions, not your results. When you are constantly planting, blessing, sharing, working, acting and doing, you are entitled to celebrate it!

5.  Keep going!  Don't give up too soon. Be patient, focused and determined. Continue to share and offer, make new contacts, follow up,  and stay connected.

Plant your seeds, attend them and connect!

Positive thoughts turn to positive actions which becomes a way of life.

Procrastination: Friend or Foe?

It's not that we're lazy, it's that we buy into the lies, some call them excuses, that we tend to tell ourselves when it comes to succeeding in business and goal management.
So, how can we overcome procrastination in direct selling? First, make sure you're aware of those lies/excuses you may offer at times, and then become aware of the characteristics of procrastination, and avoid them at all cost!

Do any of the following sound familiar?
*I've got plenty of time and resources to reach my goal.
*I don't feel like it now, but I will later.
*I'm not in the mood now, I'll be more productive later.
*I've got too much going on, I can't make time for anything.

Yes, the list can continue, but I think we've all at least used one or more of these excuses, believed one or more of these lies, so I am sure it's alright if I just stop here.
How exactly can we overcome procrastination in direct selling, especially when we believe these excuses to be true for our lives at any given time?
Well, we need to push through our circumstances, always remembering why it is we chose direct sales and our company; we need to push past the fear of taking on a task that our mind it telling us will cause fear, and we need to see it as an opportunity. I can discuss the importance of vision and goal planning and overcoming fear, which is all necessary, but more importantly, if we become aware of how procrastination works to deter our vision and goal, we will be able to overcome that and push through to reach our goals.

Wikipedia defines procrastination as the practice of carrying out less urgent tasks in preference to more urgent ones, or doing more pleasurable things in place of less pleasurable ones, and thus putting off impending tasks to a later time, sometimes to the "last minute" before the deadline.

When we talk about procrastination, we are in reality, talking about hesitation. Why are we hesitant to carry out a task at hand even it is less urgent or less pleasurable? Why to we tend to put off tasks instead of managing our time, no matter how busy we may be, and taking care of what needs to be done at a manageable time, avoiding us stress, anxiety and even guilt?
If we become aware of the following 8 characteristics of hesitation or procrastination, we may be able to fight them and develop time management skills necessary to accomplish our tasks in a timely manner and with the right positive attitude needed to achieve our goals of success!

Procrastination brings the following characteristics. Once we learn to deal with them, procrastination won't have a hold of us any longer.

1. Ignorance. Ignorance lacks knowledge on how to do something. Sometimes because we don't know how to do the task at hand, it's easier to just put it off or say we can't.

2.  Apathy. Apathy lacks hope, belief and the drive to get things done. Take a moment to look around at your situation and if you lack any of these, then it's time for you to get back that motivation for your business. Contact your upline or director and let them know what's going on and they will help you get your drive back!

3.  Ongoing Motion. Inertia lacks time. Constant moving in a direction without a set time or planning will not necessarily get you where you need to go.

4.  Boredom. Boredom lacks focus, it lacks the ability to pay attention and do the task at hand.

5.  Rush Addiction. This lacks energy. It usually means we wait until the last minute to get the rush of adrenaline to get the task done. This may impact results because we did not take time to work our plan correctly.

6.  Apprehension.  Apprehension lacks courage. We tend to fear meeting the goals and coming out of our comfort zone. Fear is our number one enemy.

7.  Vagueness. This lacks clarity. When we are vague in what we need to get done, we will not get it done. We need a specific, planned course of action in order to see results.

8.  Emptiness. Disinterest lacks passion. When we lack passion we will find so many excuses that result in "this is just not for me".

The next time any one of these lies/excuses creep up in your thoughts, identify them as procrastination and tackle them by doing exactly the opposite!

Begin the road to your success by kicking this foe out of your life!

Hostess Coaching 101

Got a party booked? Great! Now, with some easy coaching, you're sure to get that party rocking!  Implement these coaching tips to your parties and see improvement, because when we coach our hosts/hostesses, we simply guide them to a successful party!

Hostess Coaching can be summed up in 2 great steps:  consistent contact and doing what you say you are going to do!

That first call/contact should be within a day or two of the booking.  Call to do the following:
1.  SAY THANK YOU for having a Scentsy show with me and set a sales goal of how much she wants to earn on her hostess rewards. By setting a goal, you can help her visualize and aim for how much she needs to sell at her party.
2. Confirm the date and make sure it is going to work for her and her friends/family/co-workers.
3.  Find out how she is going to do the invites.  Evites? Postcards? Email a flyer? Facebook? Text?  Ask what will work best for her group and then discuss when the invites needs to go out.  Make sure to remind her that you will call and follow up when invites are due to go out.
And that is it for the first phone call or email!
Nothing over-whelming or complicated.

2nd call/contact is when invites are due to go out.
As a general rule, don't invite people farther out than 2 weeks, and 10-14 days in advance is plenty of notice.  People can even be invited up to the day of the event. You never know who you're going to run into that you might have not thought about inviting.
When you make this call/contact, be sure to remind her of different groups she should invite.  Family, friends, co-workers and neighbors are givens, so try to think of people she might forget.  Teachers, coaches, reading club, husbands' friends wives, daycare, etc.
You might want to remind her of where the hostess rewards are in the catalog and go over what she's going to get for having her party!  And remind her it's going to be a fun get-together, no stress and a great time for her people.

3rd call/contact is a day or two before the party. Just remind her to call, email, or text everyone to remind them of the date.  Life gets in the way and sometimes we tend to forget what we did the day before, let alone that a party is coming up.  This will keep the people from saying "oh my heavens, I totally forgot" which is exactly what will happen to almost all of the invitees if they are not reminded!

A great tip when the party is booked is to always give your hostess a basket or pouch party to take orders from people who can't make it or don't show up to the party.  Even if she says she doesn't think she will need it, you never know when someone will pop in to her life and want to place an order.  Tell her it's for her own good, and there is no pressure, but you just want to make it easier on her friends if they want to place an order.

Following these simple Hostess Coaching steps is sure to get your party to the goal you have set with your hostess.  Next, just have fun and enjoy!

These coaching tips were taken from a Coaching Training Session at Spring Sprint by Kay Dighans, Super Star Director with Scentsy Family.

5 Enemies to Watch Out For

Fear destroys; even the most basic fears destroy. The choices we make either enhance our fears,  or kick them out of our way. Here are five common "enemies" that we face within ourselves when it comes to our business. If we keep them on check and we face them head on, we can overcome them and see success!

1.  Indifference.  Lack of interest, concern, or sympathy. Synonyms: lack of concern, unconcern, disinterest, lack of interest, lack of enthusiasm, apathy, nonchalance. You cannot be on the road to success with indifference. You cannot achieve your goals if you don't treat your business as a priority and if you go about your daily routines with any indifference towards your business. When we have an "if I don't get to it today, I'll get to it tomorrow" type attitude, there's a lack of enthusiasm there that seldom gets us to where we want to go.  Kick indifference out of your way and put passion in its place!

2.  Indecision.  Difficulty in making a decision; a wavering between two or more possible courses of action. Synonyms: faltering, hesitation, pause, wavering. Indecision never allows you to go for that leap. It steals the moment and the opportunity. Choose to make something happen and stick to it. Kick indecision out of your way and put determination in its place!

3.  Doubt. To be uncertain about (something); to believe that (something) may not be true or is unlikely; to have no confidence in (someone or something). Synonyms: distrust, mistrust, question, suspect. Doubt destroys your life because you begin to question everything about yourself and your business. You need to trust the decision you have made about your business, you need to trust your company and you need to trust yourself. Kick doubt out of your way and put belief and faith in its place!

4.  Worry. To think about problems or fears; to feel or show fear and concern because you think that something bad has happened or could happen; to make (someone) anxious or upset. Synonyms: bother, fear, fret, fuss, stress, trouble. It's normal to think about some problems or fears within the business, but when you let worry conquer you, you lose control. Always remember that within all plausible problems of what could happen scenarios, there's always a solution; don't let worry get the best of you. Kick worry out of your way and put peace in its place!

5.  Overcautious.  Excessively or unnecessarily cautious and too careful to avoid potential problems or dangers. Synonyms:  too careful, too conservative, too safe, too timid. Being overcautious can destroy your life. A timid approach to your business will not allow you to grow, advance or overcome. Timid people do not cross lines or take leaps. Every choice made in your business is a line crossed or a leap taken. Don't let over caution control your actions. Kick over caution out of your way and put confidence in its place!

Don't let the fear of success be greater than the fear of failure! Conquer those enemies!
Don't be limited to the life you're living.

Quick Tips On The Go!

Consultants and Representatives of Direct Selling Companies join these companies because they fall in love with the product, believe in the product and know the benefits of the product. Apart from the basic ways of earning income and reaching sales goals (parties, open houses, events, demos), these are some quick 'on the go' tips to help with new leads and customer base, as well as sales.
The more passionate we are about our products and the more they become part of our lifestyle, the more we will reap the benefits of sharing our products with everyone, every where we go!
Implement some of these On The Go tips to watch your business grow!

1. Brand yourself. Brand your car. Everywhere you go make sure you have on something that has your company's logo and that is promoting your products and promoting yourself! Car vinyl, t-shirt, cap, button, name badge, bag or purse. Generate questions everywhere you go by branding and promoting your business!

2. Info packs.  Carry information packs or recruiting materials with you where ever you go, along with some stickies or post it notes. Whenever you give out an info pack, write down the new lead's info on the stickies or post it note and follow up with them within two to three days. If you give out 10 info packs, then you should have 10 new lead info notes.

3.  Infomercials! Know your products and your business compensation plan and don't be afraid to talk to others about it. Find ways to work your little commercials into your conversations and let others see your passion and know what they're missing out on! Know the benefits of your product and of being a part of your company.

4.  Third party referrals. Ask everyone for referrals! Ask current customers, hosts, leads, new leads, anyone and everyone should be made aware of the amazing products you represent as well as the amazing opportunity that can change their life. Ask for referrals when you're having conversations with various people, they surely know a couple of people who are interested in what you have to offer. Step out of your comfort zone!

5.  Monthly Flyers/Packets. Label your packs or as I like to call them, "goodie bags". Include some samples, a product list or catalog, sponsoring information and any other "goodie" you can include; carry them with you, mail them to current customers and past hostesses and make sure you get them in the hands of all leads. Label, label, label. No product, no paper, nothing should leave your hands if it's not labeled!

Connecting With Charisma

Connecting and making connections is the best way to grow your business. But, how can we connect with others? We can connect by spending time outside of our comfort zones and building connections with charisma!

During a leadership training I received last year, the speaker mentioned that the best way to come out of our comfort zone and purposely grow our business is by making deliberate connections with new contacts. The way we connect with those new contacts has a lot to do with our charisma towards others. In a nutshell, here are the ways we should be building connections:

C Concern for the need of the person, what does he/she want or need?
H Help. Reach out to others in their need.
A Action. Take action and create a fun and enjoyable experience.
R Results. Have the ability to produce results when making connections by applying your strengths.
Influence, be influential, be a leader and others will follow.
S Sensitivity when making connections allows others to feel comfortable with you.
M Motivation and hope should be at the core of your connections with others.
Affirmation. Build up the person you are connecting with and let them see themselves as you see them.

Positive thoughts turn to positive actions which becomes a way of life.

Step Out Of Your Comfort Zone

As businessmen and businesswomen, we need to always be alert as to what phase or level we are in when it comes to our business, our lives, our family, mentally, spiritually, emotionally and physically. When you feel as though you've hit a plateau in your business, then that's the time you need to evaluate and examine where you are and face the fact that it may be time to step out of that comfort zone and jump into growth!

The first step in auto-evaluation and self-examination in any area of your life is to ask yourself what are your three strengths and three weaknesses in a specific area. So, since we are talking about our business as Independent Consultants or Representatives, the first thing you need to do is make a list of 3 things you believe you are good at in your business and 3 things you believe you are not good at. (This can be in any area of your business).

Next, you need to list weekly actions you are going to make to get you to grow. Those three things can be a mix of your strengths and weaknesses, just make sure you don't concentrate only on your strengths. The point is to come out of your comfort zone, so tackling your areas of weakness will be helpful in this step.
Ask yourself this:
What are three simple steps I can take this week to get to where I want to go? (This can be geared to any area of your life, not just business).
Ask yourself this question each Sunday night or Monday morning, jot down your answers each week and make sure you follow through with the steps.

When you talk about coming out of your comfort zone, you need to realize that, inside that comfort zone, there's no need to think, there are no risks taken and there's no growth. It's your comfort zone!
But once you decide to step out, you will find that as soon as you make the decision to step out, fear and terror will want to paralyze you and stop you dead in your tracks. Don't let it!! You will find that stepping out of your comfort zone unto growth requires intentionality. You need to be intentional in your actions and sometimes force yourself to take action towards growth. You will find that as you begin to think and realize you must step out, there comes a moment in time, a moment of determination where you jump out of the zone, into growth and realize it's now or never! Once you overcome that moment, you can step into growth, a process that is uncomfortable, inconvenient, challenging, but also profitable, powerful and promising. You need to keep the last three in mind whenever you experience the first three and want to quit!

Remember to overcome your fear with faith. Believe in yourself. Believe you can do it and kill all of the negative beliefs you may have of yourself. All the negative sound must go!
Now, go and step out of that comfort zone and capture growth!
You can do it!

Tips on Sponsoring New Recruits

With the start of the New Year, it's always important to set goals for growth. If you consistently grow your team wide and deep, you will enjoy success. Here are some tips on how to get leads for potential recruits. Start the new year with fresh vision of growth and watch your team bloom!

1.  Take some time to go through training videos, calls and notes about recruiting and sponsoring. Keep the vision fresh in your mind, and see it come to pass!

2.  Keep an eye out for Rock Star hosts and hostesses, sign them up and have that party be their launch party. Get them to see your vision of growth and set goals with them to reach their fast track, shooting star and pacesetter awards as soon as they sign up! Get your team moving!

3.  Market and promote yourself in social networking as a Team Leader and Trainer. Get your vision out there and invite others to join your team and run with your team's vision!

4.  Reach out to some loyal customers and find out if any family members want to join your team and they can then support their family member as their loyal customer. Don't look at it as losing a loyal customer, but as gaining a new team member who will branch out and expand their customer base with your help and coaching.

5.  Share the business opportunity with everyone you meet. Talk about growth, share your vision and let everyone know you are looking for partners and team members who want to start the new year fresh. Share your vision and let others run with it and have a team that blooms!

6.  Host some events, attend some events and look out for those special people looking for a business opportunity. Share the benefits of your company, products, compensation plan and your training and coaching.  Share your vision of growth!

7.  Do a Recruiting Bltiz. Call past customers, hosts, hostesses, leads and let them know what your company is offering this month as a start up bonus, share the compensation plan and let them know you are sponsoring new team members and wanted to give them first hand information and option to joining your growing team this month!

8.  Lead others with your passion and be positive about the success you are having this new year with your growing team. Lead them, they will follow!

9.  Share and educate others about your product. When people see the benefits of your product, your passion about your product and how easy it is to share and sell, they will want to join and educate others as well. Share your passion!

10.  Seal the deal, don't let them think on it, close the sponsorship deal if they don't have any objections. There are people who are ready to join and are just waiting to be asked! Get those to  run with your vision of growth!
